Curious about your past life memories? You may be surprised by the ways memories of past lives can show up. In this article, you’ll discover 25 signs to look for, along with tips on how to remember past lives without hypnosis or meditation.
How to Remember Past Lives
Have you ever felt an odd pull toward a place, a style, or even a moment in history that doesn’t seem to fit into your current life? Past life memories don’t always arrive as a clear recollection. Sometimes they show up as a tug of curiosity, an unexplained fear, a recurring dream, or a powerful connection to a particular time or place.
My own interest in reincarnation started young. In the 4th grade, I wrote a book report on the Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten. By 6th grade, my fascination had grown. With two girlfriends, we recreated the inside of a pyramid with colored pencils and shirt cardboard from the cleaners.
Those early obsessions weren’t just school projects but clues pointing to experiences my soul already lived. Over time, I’ve seen how these clues show up. They sometimes appear as passions and talents, and other times as aversions or fears. The trick is to notice what stirs something strong inside you.
Some Memories of Past Lives
Past life experiences don’t always come as a clear memory. Sometimes they show up as a powerful sense of familiarity, an unexplained fear, a recurring dream, or an intense connection to a particular place or period in history.
One of the most obvious signs of a past life memory is when you feel drawn to a particular period of history. For me, it’s always been King Arthur’s legends, the drama of Queen Elizabeth I, and the romance of Renaissance Italy.
In fact, the first European country I ever visited was Italy, as if my soul had been calling me back home. Travel is a very common clue. Yet, the clues don’t always show up in such bold ways. Sometimes they hide in the details of everyday life.
Take my home décor, for example. Years ago, I decorated my bedroom with Corinthian columns, which are ornate, decorative columns I picked up from an antique store. They flank either side of my bed with a crosspiece above, holding lights.
Why did I feel the need for this specific architectural style? At the time, I didn’t stop to question it. But later, I recognized it as another subtle nudge from my Italian past life memories.
Lessons from Ancient Egypt
One of the most vivid past-life visions I’ve had took me right back to ancient Egypt, echoing the fascination I’d felt as a child. In this vision, I was a wealthy woman, not royalty but rich enough to live in luxury. I was decked out in fabulous jewelry.
But the attitude of my spirit wasn’t so pretty. That woman I saw myself as was harsh, yelling at servants and cruel. Not exactly a lighthearted soul or my best act.
And here’s where it got interesting. In my very next lifetime, I was back in Egypt again, but this time as a slave, making mud bricks under the punishing sun. It was during the time of Moses, so I eventually found freedom and crossed the Red Sea to wander the desert.
From wealth and power to the humblest of lives, my soul wanted both experiences. That’s how past lives work. They help us balance, grow, and round out the rough edges.
Echoes of War
Sometimes the patterns show up across many readings. For instance, a few years ago I decided to do 30 readings in 30 days for different people. I was quite surprised when I saw that several people had been Roman soldiers. I questioned the validity of this finding.
However, when you think about it, Rome’s empire lasted for centuries, and the army was quite massive with thousands of warriors. So, it makes sense that many could have come back today when you think about how many souls had that experience in the past.
Another striking story came through during a past life reading for a woman who had deep fears of fireworks and drowning that she couldn’t explain. In this life she is a Japanese woman and she wanted to know about her most recent incarnation.

Turns out she was a US sailor who died in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. I was impressed with this soul’s bravery to return to the culture that caused his death and also to come back as a woman. While these were difficult past life memories, understanding the root cause of her fears was helpful.
A Viking at Halloween
One of my favorite examples was also one of the most nerve-wracking. My friend begged me to do a past life reading for a local newspaper reporter who came to the psychic fair. Of course I worried about not coming up with anything.
The reporter sat down at my table and his wife stood behind him. Both friendly but gave nothing away. What I saw was crystal clear – he had a life as a Viking. Blonde hair, a beard, heavy tunic, shield, sword, helmet—the works. He was training with his sword with other men from the village.
When I described the scene, I held my breath, wondering if he’d roll his eyes. Instead, his wife burst out laughing. She told me that every single Halloween, without fail, he dressed up as a Viking. His past still echoed, nudging him to remember.
Halloween itself can be a massive source of clues. Year after year, people instinctively pick costumes that feel oddly familiar. It’s as if the soul seizes its chance to slip into an old identity, even just for one night. Maybe you’re always drawn to being a witch, a flapper, a soldier, or a queen. It could be past life memories.
Your Soul Knows
Exploring past lives is fun, but also revealing. It helps explain the unexplainable. Why you’re drawn to certain places, why certain fears linger, and why certain people feel instantly familiar. It’s a way to understand yourself on a soul level, with compassion and curiosity.
Next time you find yourself magnetically drawn to a piece of history, a place, or even a Halloween costume, pause and ask yourself, “Could this be a clue?” The soul is always whispering, leaving breadcrumbs to remind you of the vastness of who you really are.

Past Life Recall
Now that you know all the easy ways to discover possible past lives, I’ll give you the short list of how you might actually recall the lives. First, you can look for a hypnotherapist that specializes in past life recall. You might also try self-hypnosis to do this on your own. There are many videos about this on YouTube.
The second path is to get into a meditative state and ask your higher self or spirit guides to show you a past life that is important for the life lessons you are currently working on. Connecting to something influencing you today will create a stronger experience than plain curiosity.
